In traditional Japanese society, Dad was the breadwinner and it was up to Mom to keep track of the family finances. Companies would pay their employees cash in little envelopes, which the men dutifully handed over to their wives at home. The wife would then give her husband an allowance, just like she’d give to the kids, for him to spend on cigarettes, liquor, manga, or whatever.
Apparently, Junior won’t take “Later” for an answer. That’s why moms have to be so good at multi-tasking.
